Comparisons
Calorie tracker apps, compared honestly
We make Day Pal, so read this as a vendor's comparison. Every claim about another app links to that app's own page, with the date we checked it. Where another app does something better, we say so.

What to compare before you pick one
- What stays free
- Many apps let you download for free and then put logging, scanning or history behind a subscription. Check what the free plan still does after the first week.
- How you log
- Search and manual entry are precise but slow. Photo and voice logging are fast but they are estimates. The best app is the one you will still use in a month.
- The food database
- Big databases find more branded and restaurant foods. Small curated ones have fewer duplicates. Day Pal's is small: 13,000+ foods.
- The real price
- Look at the store's in-app purchase list, not only the price on the paywall. Some apps show several prices for the same plan.
- Your data
- Ask what happens to your photos, whether you need an account to start, and whether you can export and delete everything.
Day Pal is a good fit if you
- want to log by photo, voice or a sentence, and correct the estimate
- want free food search and manual logging with no time limit
- would rather not create an account before your first log
- use the app in Arabic, German, Japanese, Korean or one of 11 languages
Pick something else if you
- mostly scan packaged food
- need a very large database of branded and restaurant foods
- want to see your full diary history without paying
